Kiln

Kiln is an oven or a thermally insulated chamber in which temperature is controlled. Kiln is used for the hardening, burning or drying of materials. It is also used for the firing of materials such as claw and other raw materials to form ceramics.

Specific uses of kiln include the following:

  • Drying of green lumber so that it can be used immediately
  • Drying of wood for use as firewood
  • Heating of wood to the point of pyrolysis to produce charcoal
  • Annealing, fusing and deforming of glass
