Timber Frame Construction

Timber-frame construction is the method of creating framed structures using heavy timbers jointed by pegged mortise and tenon joints. Diagonal bracing is used to prevent the movement of structural vertical beams or posts.

Timber-frame construction consists of vertical, horizontal and sloping timbers. Vertical timbers refer to the posts and wall studs while horizontal timbers include sill-beams, noggin-pieces and wall-plates. Sloping timbers include the trusses, braces and herringbone bracing.
