GEO Probe Test

This test is to be carried out by the laboratory staff on site. When excavation has proceeded to the designed formation level of a structure, the ER may need to ascertain the bearing capacity of that layer of insitu soil before approval is given to blinding concrete. In case the existing soil condition is not satisfactory or soft spot(s) is encountered, the GEO Probe Test will be used to determine the bearing capacity of the doubted areas. The procedure is to place the lower end of probe resting against the ground at the test location and raise the hammer to bear against the upper anvil and then allow to fall freely to drive the probe into the existing soil. The number of blows required to drive the probe for every 100mm of penetration into the existing soil, or at refusal ( nil penetration distance ) for 50 blows will be recorded for the Engineer’s assessment.
