Glass Doors

Glass doors are made from glass materials which let light pass through and allow a view of the other side. Glass doors are typically used as entry doors, office dividers, shower doors and patio doors.

Types of Glass Doors

Hinged Glass Door

Hinged glass door is a typical door hinged along one side to allow the door to pivot along one direction.

Sliding Glass Door

Sliding glass door is useful for space and aesthetic considerations. It consists of two or more panels sliding past one another using overhead parallel tracks.

Frameless Glass Door

A frameless glass door can be installed via hinges or rails which allows it to slide or swing open. This type of door has no aluminum, wood or steel framing.

Types of Glass Used for Doors

Tempered Glass

Tempered glass is a type of safety glass that has been heat-treated for added strength and impact resistance. Its strength is five times than of normal glass. Tempered glass typically shatters into tiny pieces when broken.

Insulated Glass

Insulated glass is composed of two or more glass materials pressed together to form one unit. Most insulated glass only have air in between them, but some have argon or krypton gas for added thermal insulation and acoustic properties.

Laminated Glass

Laminated glass is a type of safety glass having two layers of glass material with a film in between. This film called an interlayer is a tough but pliable material known as polyvinyl butyral(PVB). The PVB hold the two layers together allowing the glass to bend and absorb any impact. This type of glass is usually found in prisons, jewelry stores, banks and other places where safety is paramount.

Beveled Glass

The edge of a beveled glass is cut at a 45-degree angle creating a prism which displays various colors when hit by sunlight.

Frosted Glass

Frosted glass is produced by sandblasting or acid-etching on the clear glass. This creates a pebbly look on the glass which allows for some privacy but still let some light in. The same effect can be produced using frosted sprays or photo-resistant film.

Stained Glass

Stained glass is a type of glass that has been added color during its manufacture. Metallic salts are added during the manufacturing process causing the glass to take on a particular color.

Tinted Glass

Tinted glass is glass that has been treated with film or coating to reduce the transmission of light.
